Indiana University Southeast
World Wide Data Collection Test using ULI's
Background
Kyle Forinash
(Physics) and
Raymond Wisman
(Computer Science) are testing the practicality of collecting data over theŻ
Internet from a large number of widely distributed
ULI
's as in the diagram at right. Our purpose here is to enlist others who are willing to be part of a short-term data collection network. The results will be reported in a
presentation
at the AAPT convention January 1999, Anaheim, California.
Can you help us?
To be a partner for this test you will need to:
Register the information needed to access the computer with the ULI.
Download a small program that makes the computer
serial port
appear as a
TCP
port (see the instructions).
Connect a ULI with a light sensor to the serial port.
Hang the light probe out a window.
Leave the computer, ULI, and TCP to Serial Port software working for the hours registered.
