What this project is about
The purpose for this student research project is to find as many
relations of ULF and ELF electromagnetic waves and natural phenomona possible.
Although it is known that lightning gives off a low frequency electromagnetic
radiation in the region of 8 hertz (and multiples), there may be other
electromagnetic occurrences that are indicators of other natural events.
For example, there is a possibility that earthquakes may give off signals
in the range of 4 hz. We have built three antennas to detect the magnetic
component of signals under 100 Hz. As this region of the electromagnetic
spectrum is not well studied, we are unsure of what we may find.
We intend to present our data collected from the antenna to see if we can
draw any conclusions. This project is an extension of an article
presented in Scientific American's Amateur Scientist features.
