To get you started on this topic I've listed several WWW sites
that I would like you to visit. You may find, depending on the
time of day and the site you are visiting, that response is slow.
Please go on to another site - you are also encouraged to find
others using any search engine such as Yahoo, Lycos, etc. I find
that if I do my Web browsing before 11am I generally get good
response. Once the west coast folks get going things tend to
slow down dramatically.

I would like to have you look at two major topic areas:
reliability and security of computer-based systems. The
following sites deal with software reliability: (Download/print
any information you find especially pertinent - within reason).

Click on reliability for a good working definition

Check safety, liability
Click the papers icon at the upper right and look at
Java Security: Hostile Applets, Holes, and Antidotes.

3. Visit the Computer Security organization site.

4. Visit the Centre for Software Reliability site.

5. Visit other related sites and print off relevant information
(within reason)

Browse through this site carefully and try to get a
feel for the public-key crypto-technology RSA sells
Use Yahoo (or Lycos, or...) to find information on PGP
(Pretty Good Privacy) by David Zimmerman. You may
download a shareware copy of PGP. Just be sure you
obtain it from a site in the USA. It is considered
'munitions' by the US government and it is a felony to
export. It is legal to obtain and use within the US.
