Some pedagogical considerations for using
technology.
1.
Transparency.
- The technology should not distract from the content.
Students should see the technology as a resource for encountering the
content and not mistake the technology for the content itself.
2. Low learning
curve for students.
- Students should not have to spend a great deal of effort or time learning the technology.
The use of the technology should be relatively obvious to the student.
3. Low learning
curve for instructors.
- Instructors should not have to spend a great
deal of effort or time fiddling with the technology (either in
preparation or in use).
4. Interactivity.
- Learning is a social activity! Students have to
get feedback, interact with and be able to control the material. Otherwise
you may as well write a book!
5. Relevancy.
- Do you really need to do it at all? Sure it looks cool but would you be better off spending your time
(and money) on something else?
6. Efficacy.
- Assess the effectiveness of the technology. If something else works better then use it.
